Find Your Fire.
Change is hard. Achieving our goals takes work. Science says forming new habits can take 21-66+ days. Personally, looking at the science and what it takes to get me from point A to point B, can be a little daunting.
Accomplishing a goal is all about knowing what you want and then building new habits to get there. Here are 4 steps that I use to me sift through all the “how to” info out there.
1. First and foremost, ask yourself, what do you want and why do you want it?
2. Now break it down. How do you get there? Big picture is great but can be very overwhelming. You need to begin with little nuggets. Start with daily goals. These then will turn into weekly goals. Recognize the mini wins along the way! They are so important. They are what will get you to the endgame. If your goal is to be active everyday it doesn’t have to be an hour workout. Play with your kids at the park. Jog to get your mail. Run up and down the stairs at home. Build off this everyday movement and give your self props along the way. Them start to push yourself little more each day. Keep building.
3. Be patient with yourself. We do not ask kids to learn how to read in a week. Same goes with us adults. Life is life and there are good days, days where you just get by, amazing days, and really shitty days. If you have a bad day, a bad week, that’s ok. Brush yourself off and keep going. We are human. We are doing the best we can. A bad day, heck a bad month, does not mean you will not accomplish your goals, you can and you will, you just have to keep going.
4. Accountability is crucial to achieving your goals. This is what we, Poppy Fitness, are here for. This is why you want to surround yourself with people you trust, that know how important those goals are to you. You are incredibly strong but that doesn’t mean you can do it all alone, nobody can and nobody should have to.
We are all different and you need to find what works for you. Science gives us guides on how to set goals and that matters. However, what lights the fire in you to achieve those goals, no science can tell you that. The truth is, the only way you will achieve your goals is if you find that fire. Find what drives you. Find your why. If you do that and combine that with goal setting strategies, that is the secret recipe.
